Well looks like someone talked some sense into the guy and he relinquished the domain. Got him to take the transfer lock off of it, just waiting now for a WHOIS update and i'll be able to transfer it to my registrar. Then this whole mess will be sorted out. Read more for info on how to connect to the website in the meantime.
You have two choices for connecting to the website while we wait for global dns to update. This could take a couple of days as there are two changes necessary (changing to new registrar, then updating dns pointers to the new servers).

a) edit your hosts file. pretty easy to do. the prefered way of doing it.
i) go to start->run and type in: notepad c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts (assuming winxp or win2k)
ii) at the bottom of this file put in:
iii) save, exit, and load up your browser. just rememeber to remove this line in about a week or two when the dns has fully resolved.

b) go to the temp url of this is not the preferred way because you wont have your cookies for auto login and such. it really ought to work fine and whatnot though.

you can take the crap out of your hosts file now. dns is finished propagating now that hte previous owner actually checked his email to authorize the transfer....

1. go to start->run and type in (or copy and paste): notepad c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts
2. find the line with in it and erase it
3. save and exit
